Also this year, a cycle of seminars on new technologies, Artificial Intelligence and law, coordinated by Prof. Ugo Ruffolo, will be held as part of the School of Law and the School of Legal Studies of the University of Bologna.

In an ideal continuation of past years' editions, the seminar cycle will focus on the many issues of legal mediation related to the use of new technologies and Artificial Intelligence systems in various sectors.

During the meetings, issues related to the regulation of A.I. will be addressed, also taking into account the developments in the sector's EU regulations and the issues posed by the new A.I. Act. and specific discussion will be devoted to liability from the production and use of A.I. (from defective product liability to liability for dangerous activity), as well as related “electronic personality” issues.

Issues related to the role of data (new goods?) and the impact of algorithmic contracting on contract law will be addressed. The conditioning effects of legal machinery on the use of generative A.I. systems (e.g., ChatGPT), related copyright and patentability issues for robotic works and inventions, and copyright infringement issues for works from which A.I. “learns” will be surveyed.

The problems of “platform law” will then take on central importance: from content moderation to the protection of freedom of manifestation of thought online (disinformation, fake news, the deepfakes, etc.) to consumer protection rules.

The event will be a qualified opportunity for discussion between exponents of different knowledge: the twelve meetings will be attended by academics, representatives of the institutions, representatives of the Authorities, as well as lawyers or top managers of relevant business entities in the sector.

The meetings of the series of seminars will take place every Tuesday from October 1, 2024 until December 17, 2024, in the time slot 15.00-17.00, at Palazzo Malvezzi (Via Zamboni, No. 22). There is, however, the possibility of remote participation for each meeting via Microsoft Teams, in the manner indicated on the last page of the attached brochure.
